Don’t Leave Them There

They sure do look pretty when they change color and float from the trees. But when they land on your car, leaves can do some hefty damage.

A buildup of leaf debris can clog air filters and drains, which can create puddles of water in the battery box, fuses or other important areas of the car. They can even become a fire risk if they dry out and come into contact with a hot exhaust manifold. And they can interfere with your windshield wipers’ operation.

What’s more, tree sap, pollen and chemicals from leaves can stain and mar the car’s paint finish.

A Word Of Advice

So, what can you do? We’ll never avoid all of the leaves this fall. Here are a few ideas that can help:

Don’t park under trees. Obvious, perhaps, but a good reminder. Often, we park our vehicle wherever we are used to parking it. If that happens to be under a tree this fall, time to start looking for a new spot.

Check for leaves—often. Remove any from outside your car and under the hood. You can do this with your hands while wearing gloves, or with a gentle brush that won’t damage your car.

Give your car a bath. Whether at home, or at the local carwash, wash your car more frequently in the fall.

Keeping your car leaf-free is just one way to ensure your vehicle is in the best possible shape for driving your way through fall. You might want to revisit your insurance too. Call us today to learn more from one of our friendly and knowledgeable independent insurance agents!
